Wisconsin Great River Road (November 2020): Wisconsin Great River Road has been awarded the Tourism Relief to Accelerate Vitality and Economic Lift (TRAVEL) Stimulus Grant and will be extending the “Welcome Back to Wisconsin’s Great River Road” promotion throughout late fall, early winter.
The multifaceted campaign was created to ramp up road trips and overnight stays on the Wisconsin portion of the Great River Road and its 33 communities. The campaign was set to run midsummer through October to capitalize on the projected increase of road trips vs. flying vacations for the remainder of 2020 due to covid 19 but will now be extended throughout the remainder of the year due to the grant.
Visitors to the site may sign up for a chance to win sweepstakes which includes an overnight stay at the Radisson Hotel in La Crosse, WI, and drinks & dining at Rocky’s Supper Club in Stoddard, WI. Plus an overnight stay at the Waterfront Hotel, 2 passes to Prairie Funland, and 2 passes to Historic Fort Crawford all in Prairie du Chien, WI, and more coming soon!
The length of the Wisconsin Great River Road offers an ideal location for multi-day trips to extend the stay and welcome visitors safely this winter since many are looking for less crowded options for accommodations and activities.
The Great River Road and its 33 communities already offer the refuge of the outdoors, and existing attributes including 4 State Parks, and a location in the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife & Fish Refuge.
“2020 has seen its challenges in the tourism industry nationally and locally along the river. The TRAVEL Grant will aid the Wisconsin Great River Road to help further promote businesses hit hard by COVID-19, and allow us to further our message of safely inviting visitors back to the area with the “Welcome Back to Wisconsin’s Great River Road” campaign.” said Sherry Quamme, Chairperson – Wisconsin Mississippi River Parkway Commission.
The campaign will benefit the many attractions, shops, and eateries that are located on the Road, many of which will be offering curbside pickups which add to the business revenue and perhaps alleviate safety concerns of visitors to the area that may be leftover from the pandemic experience. Visitors will be able to enjoy picking up supplies, food, rental equipment, and head to cabins, overlook picnics, and other winter silent sports options in these locations.
Wisconsin Great River Road received $6,500.00 from the TRAVEL Stimulus Grants. The money will be used for content marketing, revised seasonal branding, campaign social posts, e-blasts, sweepstakes, photography, and paid social media advertising.
The goal of the Wisconsin TRAVEL grant program is to aid the recovery of local entities that promote tourism, which is one of Wisconsin’s largest industries and was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. This grant is being offered in alignment with the Department of Tourism’s strategic imperative of driving economic impact by aiding in the state’s economic recovery.
