Shafer, MN | October 2020 – Franconia Sculpture Park is excited to announce Frost Fest @ Franconia, a weekend-long holiday market and bazaar on December 5th that coincides with the launch of Franconia’s free community ice rink, open from 8am-8pm daily through February 28, 2021 (weather permitting).

With the open of the Franconia Commons Visitor Center in September 2020, Franconia Sculpture Park is delighted to finally offer year-round public programming. To celebrate the holiday season, Franconia is launching Frost Fest @ Franconia, a weekend-long holiday market and bazaar where unique gifts can be purchased by local artisans and vendors. In addition to the holiday market, Franconia will be opening its first free community ice rink at the park, a combination recreational ice-skating rink and artist installation open from 8am-8pm daily through February.

Frost Fest @ Franconia will take place from 12pm-4pm on Saturday December 5, 2020. Visitors are invited to shop from area vendors, enjoy a hot beverage in Franconia Commons, and converse by the bonfire outside on the patio. A full list of holiday market vendors will be announced mid-November 2020.

In addition to the vendors at Frost Fest, Franconia invites visitors to spend time in the Franconia Commons Gift Shop, where unique gifts by artists from across the United States can be purchased. Visitors can also shop all new branded Franconia merchandise such as t-shirts, beer steins, custom perfumes made by artists-in-residence incorporating Franconia flora, and even limited-edition organic honey made by Franconia’s bees-in-residence at the park’s apiary. Visitors to the park can also sign-up for upcoming all-ages artmaking workshops such as soft sculpture, collage, and ceramics.

The centerpiece of the ice rink will highlight a new outdoor, site-specific light-sculpture by internationally-renowned artist Jason Peters. Jason Peters is a contemporary artist known for his ability to create transformative environments using found objects, light and space. Born in Mobile, Alabama in 1977, he was raised in Munich, Germany, and has lived and worked in Brooklyn, New York for nearly twenty years. Peters received his BFA in Sculpture from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and his large-scale installations have been exhibited in the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, the Center for Contemporary Arts Santa Fe, Grounds for Sculpture, Katonah Museum of Art, and Times Square.

Frost Fest @ Franconia is free and open to the public. The board and staff of Franconia Sculpture Park are excited to celebrate the holiday season with its nearly 180,000 visitors this 2020. Please join us this December!
