Cape Riverfront Market

The Cape Riverfront Market is located in historic downtown Cape Girardeau and is a great place to buy local produce and crafts. The market runs from 8am to 12pm every Saturday morning from May to October. You will find local produce, farm goods, value-added products, prepared foods, artisan crafts and more for purchase at the market. Some of these items include organic products, meats, cheeses, baked goods, jams, and fresh flowers, all of which are locally grown, homemade, and handmade. You can also look forward to live music and various specials throughout the year.

The Murals

Another activity for those exploring Cape Girardeau is visiting the variety of colorful murals that can be found throughout the town. The largest and most dramatic of these murals is the Mississippi River Tales Mural. The mural is located on a portion of the downtown floodwall and features 24 historically themed panels portraying the city’s history and heritage. Another popular mural is the Missouri Wall of Fame Mural, which features 47 individuals who were born in Missouri or achieved fame while living in the state. However, there are many more murals to see throughout the city.

Riverfront Fall Festival

Though Cape Girardeau holds many festivals and events throughout the year, one of the most cherished festivals is the Riverfront Fall Festival. If you find yourself visiting the city in the fall around October, you can attend the festival and celebrate the arrival of the fall season in Southeast Missouri. The festival is a family friendly, free, one day event featuring live performances, including a special theatrical storytelling performance, vendors, a food court with local food and drinks, and an awesome lineup of musicians. Artisans from all over Southeast Missouri will have a variety of one-of-a-kind handcrafted items and pieces of artwork for sale. There will also be plenty of activities for the kids, such as a kids costume contest, face painting, balloon animals, crafts, games, and more!

Watch the Riverboats

With a prime location on the Mississippi River, visitors to Cape Girardeau can take advantage of all the benefits, including opportunities for outdoor recreation and discovering this great waterway. Throughout the year various riverboats stop and dock at the city’s port as they make their way down the main channel. You can book tickets for a river cruise with the various Mississippi cruise lines and companies, as Cape Girardeau can make for the perfect home base for a river cruise getaway. But visitors to the city can also stop at Riverfront Park for an excellent view of the barges and riverboats making their way up and down the Mississippi River. There is terraced seating, benches, and a walking trail.
