BEST OF THE RIVER 2019 

Best of the River is focused on the best attractions, accommodations,  food & drink, and trails & tours along the Great River Road from northern Minnesota down to the Gulf of Mexico.

Best Museum for History 

1.National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium (Dubuque, IA)

Includes a significant record of the people and culture of the Mississippi River Valley, presenting a comprehensive look at Native American life, settlement, and more.

2.Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site (Collinsville, IL)

The archaeological remains of the most sophisticated prehistoric native civilization north of Mexico are preserved at Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site.

3.Buffalo Bill Museum & River Pilots Pier (LeClaire, IA)

The museum houses Buffalo Bill memorabilia, the wood-hulled steamboat “Lone Star”, the last working one of its kind on the Mississippi River.

4.Lewis & Clark State Historic Site (Hartford, IL)

The 14,000 square-foot facility, located at the Winter camp area of the expedition, will be the first site on the National Lewis and Clark Heritage Trail.

5.Bell Museum (St Paul, MN)

Minnesota’s official natural history museum and planetarium features a digital planetarium, high-tech exhibits, wildlife dioramas, outdoor learning experiences and more.
